Apprentice academics may regard the enormous effort involved as a symptom of their own inadequacy, especially if they have been led to believe that writing is supposed to be easy.

Honestly? This could be about writers everywhere, regardless of genre.

It doesn’t matter if I’m writing literary nonfiction. Or romance. Or academic prose.

Almost all of these observations apply.
